Carl Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 & Canon FD 50mm f/1.4
Two brilliant lenses in their own unique way. They are coming from 2 different eras of photography, film and digital. One of them has a price tag 10 times as much as the other one.
So, which one would you choose?
There is no doubt that Zeiss 55mm is a better lens in terms of sharpness and fast autofocus. It will get the job done perfectly without too much effort compared to the Canon FD. It is a native lens designed for Sony E-mount.
On the other hand, Canon FD lens is designed for Canon film cameras. It might be over 30 years old. Full metal built with solid full manual control of aperture and focus. And YES, it is useless for most of the people in this digital world.
I won’t put any sample photos in this post since this is not a lens review at all.
This is more of a random personal note. As an ENGINEER, I use the Zeiss to get the work done and use the Canon to enjoy my life.
